Large-format porcelain tiles or porcelain slabs are excellent materials for a variety of interior and exterior applications. The material is more compact and durable than natural marble and is made of 100% natural materials. The manufacturing process enables the reproduction of sophisticated details of high-end marbles that are getting more scarce to find.
Porcelain slabs are available in large formats (up to 126” x 63”), with a range of thicknesses from 1/8”-1.2” tailored for specific applications from countertops, vanity tops, showers, pools to ventilated facades/outdoor claddings.
As with any other porcelain product large format tiles are featuring resistance to UV rays, scratches, and thermal shocks, and total chemical inertia to stains and liquids.
The total lack of porosity in the finished product prevents bacteria growth, guaranteeing maximum hygiene in sensitive settings such as bathrooms and kitchens. The absence of chemical agents ensures the surfaces are completely inert, both during installation and in the long term, ensuring a healthy and safe home environment.
Porcelain Slabs are a relatively new product category and still not as massively produced as standard medium format porcelain tiles such as 12×24” or 24x 24”. Thus they are more expensive to buy and install. Price is defined not only by the scarcity of production resources (for example in the US there is only one factory of porcelain slabs). In addition, they are very expensive to transport as they require special wooden boxes to be safely shipped from the factory. Also, they require specific and expensive tools for cutting and at least 2 installers for installation. In general installation costs are at least twice as high compared to standard 24×24” tiles.
